The basics of live event audio, the benefits and disadvantages of field recorders/wireless, reducing background noise, etc. This month it will actually be held at PERFORMANCE AUDIO. It will be a fun and informative meeting.

Another great meeting for UPVA! This month our topic is lenses. Dave with Pictureline will be presenting and talking on the different lenses they carry. Also primes vs. zooms, tilt shift, different focal lengths for certain shooting situations, etc. The last part of the meeting will be reserved for some hands on lens testing. Bring in your lenses that you may feel relevant (rokinon, zeiss, etc.) and also your camera if you want to test some others. It should be a fun and informative meeting.

I am excited to announce a few things for this year in UPVA. First off the schedule and location has changed for all meetings. We are planning on having our meetings the first Tuesday of every month with February 7th being our first. The location will be at Pictureline in Salt Lake (address below) and they were gracious enough to give us their board room from 10:30am-12:00pm. I am very excited about this partnership with Pictureline and think it will benefit all of us to be in such a great learning environment.
I have been working on getting meetings planned for this year and wanted to roll out the first two:
February 7th (Music Licensing)
We will talk about the legal issues of music licensing within the Wedding Industry with a guest speaker (skype) the owner of www.songfreedom.com Matt Thompson. This is a huge issue right now and needs to be addressed and understood by all professionals.
March 6th (Color Grading)
Denver Riddle from Color Grading Central will be here to explain the basics of Color Grading and have some short tutorials. This is an essential part of filmmaking and often overlooked in Wedding Films. I am excited to have a true Colorist present for us. www.colorgradingcentral.com
This years focus at UPVA will be on learning. I want great emphasis put on the basics of filmmaking and how it applies to the Wedding Film Industry. We’re really excited for our upcoming UPVA meeting! This month we’ll be having a hands on field day. We’ve got a couple that has been generous enough to come along and let us take turns shooting with them at Memory Grove. Each will have 5-10 minutes to shoot, while everyone else is able to observe and learn. This will be a great way to learn some new techniques for your next shoot. Here’s the details:
